A minister has paved the way for a nationwide rollout of live facial recognition (LFR) cameras to catch criminals.
Sarah Jones, the policing minister, said the Government is planning to publish national guidance that will tell police forces where, when and how to use the technology more widely.
The Home Office has committed funding to deploy facial recognition cameras in seven police forces: Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Bedfordshire, Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley, and Hampshire.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Oct. 1 that federal layoffs will occur in the near future amid a government shutdown, as Vice President JD Vance confirmed that the administration will have to carry out layoffs.
“Expect more announcements,” she said, noting that the layoffs could come in “two days, imminent, or very soon.”
Later, Leavitt said that reductions-in-force, or RIFs, “are unfortunately going to have to happen very soon.
Donald Trump has set his sights on redeveloping Gaza in his newly announced peace plan.
The president has proposed a 20-point plan calling for an end to the war in Gaza, which includes the release of all remaining hostages held by Hamas and an outline for how he wants the region to be ruled after the war.
Trump’s proposal would have him serve as the chair of an international “Board of Peace,” which will supervise a temporary Palestinian committee responsible for handling day-to-day operations in Gaza, according to a copy of the plan released by the White House on Monday.
The 79-year-old former real estate developer also included a “Trump economic development plan to rebuild and energize Gaza” as part of the proposal, touting “many thoughtful investment proposals and exciting development ideas” that “well-meaning international groups” have put forward.

The Chief of the French Army has made a public statement telling the population of France they “must be ready for high intensity (military) conflict as early as tonight.”
There is not yet any context surrounding this public statement but it is widely viewed as having to do with Russia.
The Chief of Staff for the French Army, Gen. Pierre Schill,has stated that forces must be ready “as early as tonight” for high-intensity warfare, warning of a potential direct military confrontation in the near future with Russia over the defense of a NATO Ally in Eastern Europe.

Yesterday, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth told Generals and Admirals in all Branches of the US Military about policy changes and remarked “If what you’re hearing makes your heart sink, do the honorable thing and resign.”
Today, the Vice Chairman of the US Ari Force Global Strike Command did just that:
General Bussiere made it explicitly clear that he is retiring for Personal and Family reasons. He did not take issue with anything that was said at yesterday’s meeting, and so this retirement may, in fact, be for personal and family reasons.
The TIMING of this retirement, however, makes many people wonder if Bussiere took issue with the new policies.
Whether the General takes issue with the policies or not, he retired with Class, Grace, and Style. Honorable in every way.

Greta Thunberg has been hauled off her ‘Freedom Flotilla’ by Israeli naval forces as it neared the besieged Gaza Strip.
As the Global Sumud Flotilla approached Palestinian territory with humanitarian aid on Wednesday evening, at least six vessels were intercepted and boarded by the Israeli navy, according to those onboard.
In footage posted to X by the Israel Foreign Ministry, Swedish climate activist Thunberg is seen among those being detained by officials.
