Private jet ‘is the most efficient use of my time’ declares UK PM Sunak as he & Cameron & King Charles each take seperate private jets to travel to UN climate summit
Rishi Sunak is facing fresh outrage from climate campaigners after it emerged that the prime minister, the King, and foreign secretary David Cameron are taking separate jets to the Cop28 conference in Dubai.
Downing Street confirmed all three of the leading British representatives at the crucial summit – aimed at cutting global emissions – will each get their own private plane.
Adherent of the abrupt climate change theory, Paul Beckwith did this analysis
A new report from University College London (UCL) looks at the number and carbon emissions of private jets that went to COP27 last year in Egypt and compared their emissions to those of other modes of travel. Last year 315 private jets went to the COP, which had about 50,000 total attendees.
It’s too early to tell how many are at COP28 this year, but the total number of attendees is roughly double.
Basically, emissions per person flying by private jet are about ten times higher than travel by commercial flights, 35 times worse than travel by train, and 52 times worse than travel by coach (bus).
The report also looked at the number of fossil fuel attendees at recent COPs. Last year at COP27 there were at least 636 fossil fuel lobbyists, which was 25% higher than that at the previous COP26 in Glasgow.
Just today, reports came out showing that COP28 in Dubai has nearly 2,500 fossil fuel lobbyists attending.
That’s 4 times larger than last year. At this rate of exponential growth, in a few years the entire conference will be fossil fuel lobbyists!!
